Batwoman Authors Exit over Row About Gay Marriage

I never liked DC comics much.  The vocabulary, plots and subject matter were never up to Marvel standards.  It seemed to me even as a child that DC comics were for little kids.  Apparently that is no longer the case as the co-authors of the current Bat Woman series have quit in part because the plot line they created where Bat Woman marries her lesbian lover was nixed.  The proposal and engagement have already been published so it is hard to see why the marriage would be a problem at this point.

This all seems like a shame to me.  I am for gay marriage, or an equivalent civil union where homosexuals get the same rights as other couples.  I would prefer there be no government sanction or benefits associated with any contract between individuals, whether gay or straight. That is a longer post for another day, but suffice it to say we would not be in this position if more libertarian principles were applied, and the government did not dole out rights and benefits based on marital status.

But I also think that true equality would require that gays be portrayed as villains as often as they are heroes.  I know people of good will are trying to build acceptance, but it becomes rather obvious propaganda when gays are portrayed in only a positive light and people will rebel when they feel they are being manipulated.  And come on, who wouldn’t want to see a gay Joker?
