It is bad enough to understand all of the shenanigans that were pulled to get Obamacare passed, from bogus lawsuits that took a Republican senator out of office to stripping every word out of a bill on an unrelated subject and making it about something entirely different, but Johnathan Gruber (one of the principle architects of the ACA) is crowing about how stupid the American public is and how easily deceived they are.
“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” says the MIT economist who helped write Obamacare. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.
Well basically, Gruber is a really, really big douchebag who basically mangles the English language just as badly as the ACA mangles the healthcare industry — basically.
If you think about what he is saying for a moment you understand that the stupid people he is talking about are all partisans on his own side — the press, the leftist senators who voted for the act and the leftist voters who thought we could add millions to the insurance rolls and not pay more more money while everyone would get to keep their own doctors and there would be no cost cutting.
They might as well have called it the Pony Rides for Everyone Act for all of the relation the claims had to reality.
Not a single Republican voted for it and people on the right turned out by the millions to protest. It was only because leftists and centrists are economically illiterate that the ACA was able to be made into the law of the land. Well, that and the fact that the Supreme Court was willing to sacrifice its legitimacy to see the country continue its forced march leftwards.
